Stamp globe image from the Stampers Anonymous Travel Blueprint set, on the smooth side of a piece of Distress Watercolor Cardstock, using waterproof Jet Black Archival Ink.
Add ink from the brush end of a Peacock Feathers Distress Marker to a Craft Sheet.
Squeeze the Detail Water Brush to fill the chamber with water. Once it has been filled, it becomes self feeding and will not need to be filled again for most projects.
Use ink from the Craft Sheet to color the globe.
Continue the coloring process until globe image is complete.
Once globe is dry, cut out and ink edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a Mini Ink Blending Tool.
Ink globe image with Distress Embossing Ink.
Pour Embossing Powder over the top of the image, tapping off the excess and returning it to the jar.
Melt embossing powder with Heat it Tool until surface becomes shiny. Set aside.
For the journal, I’m going to use the large Worn Cover Journal – Chronicle
Color the fabric cover the the Worn Cover with Antique Linen Distress Stain. Dry with a Heat it tool. NOTE: Any color of Distress Stain will work to color the cover. It is quick and easy to do and it doesn’t leave streaks.
Create a puddle of Broken China Distress ink and water on the Craft Sheet. Use the Water Brush to flick Distress Ink over Worn Cover (front and back) by tapping it on the side of your finger.
Clip the number 14 and the word ‘twenty’ from Alpha Parts – Numeric.
Add Glossy Accents over the word ‘twenty’. Set aside to dry.
Pounce Silver Mixatives Alcohol Ink onto number. Add at least 3 or 4 layers of Stream Alcohol Ink over the silver, waiting at least 30 seconds between layers. The short drying time between layers will give you much more depth.
Use heavyweight wire cutters to snip the large arrow from the Adornments pack in half.
Use Gold Mixatives Alcohol Ink to color the Adornments arrow. NOTE: To get an even grungier look, add a layer of paint like Iced Spruce before adding the Alcohol Ink. The dried paint on the metal surface allows you to work away some of the gold color with your thumb or a paper towel.
Adhere the paper globe, the word ‘twenty’ and the arrow to the cover with Multi Medium.
Add the Alpha Parts ‘14’ below the word ‘twenty’ with Multi Medium.
Paint a Word Band from the Observations pack with Picket Fence Distress Paint.
Wipe excess paint to reveal white lettering. Set aside to dry.
Color a large Mirrored Star with Mushroom Alcohol Ink.
Use a sharp tool like the Tonic Craft Pick to create two holes for the Word Band.
Add the Word Band to the cover with two Long Fasteners. Adhere the Mirrored Star with Multi Medium.
Create a Custom Brad using the stickers and epoxy that come in the package. Clip off the brad legs.
Add to the cover with thin foam tape.
To keep the book closed, I am going to add an Elastic Loop to the back cover.
Punch a large hole with a Crop-A-Dile at the center back of the book.
Insert the metal end of the Elastic Loop into the hole.
The Loop will wrap around the end of the journal to keep
I decided the inside of the cover was too bare, so I went back to add the Latticework Layering Stencil pattern in Distress Ink Tumbled Glass in the center of the cover.
On the outside edge I changed it up by continuing the pattern with Antique Linen, softly fading into the Tumbled Glass.
I also added Mini Corners to the front cover using a small hammer to secure to the edge.
The final step in finishing a Worn Cover is to add the Ring Binder. I will need some Crinkle Ribbon to do that, so I colored about 1 1/2 yards with Wild Honey, Broken China, and Pumice Stone Distress Stain.
Cut two 12” pieces of the colored Crinkle Ribbon. Thread each end of the Ring Binder with one 12” piece.
Pull through to the outside of the book.
Pull ribbon snug, then crisscross ends in preparation for the bow.
Wrap the remaining Crinkle Ribbon around your spread fingers until you have 3 loops on each side.
Shimmy the ribbon from your fingers pinching in the center to hold secure.
Add loops to the spine and tie a knot in the center. Trim the ends.
The Large Worn Cover has Large Page Pockets that match it’s size. Each package comes with 12 pockets – three each of four different styles.
Gather paper, stamps and ephemera to fill to the pockets.
Add Page Pockets to the book.
I hope you liked today’s tutorial for the Worn Cover journal. I also hope that it inspires you to print your vacation photos and get them into a book, someplace where you can tell your story before the memories are lost. Remember, you can color the Worn Cover journal with any of the Distress Stain Colors to match your vacation theme. Maybe Broken China for a beach vacation or Iced Spruce for a modern look. Whatever you choose, it is sure to be a winning combination: family/friends + vacation = good times and great memories to keep.
