creating with the basics is a good reminder to use the things we have. media team member vicki boutin shares how to make a quick card using core’dinations kraft core and sizzix die cuts. sometimes less is more…t!m

Hey there!  Today is my debut on Tim’s blog as a new Media Team member and can I just say how happy I am to be here!  There are so many wonderful directions to go in when it comes to playing with all of Tim’s product lines and I chose to start off with two of my favorites…Sizzix Alterations dies and Kraft-Core papers from Core’dinations.  I combined these with a few Layering Stencils and a Sanding Grip to make a pretty layered card.

Supplies:

  • Surfaces: Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection 2.25in x 12in
  • Dies: Spring Greenery , Tattered Floral Garland
  • Layering Stencils: Stars, Rays, Harlequin
  • Embellishments: Idea-ology Linen Ribbon, Word Band, Gumdrops
  • Distress Paint: Tarnished Brass
  • Glitter: Mercury Glass Stickles
  • Alcohol Ink: Pebble
  • Tools: Sanding Grip; Vagabond

I love how delicate these leaves and blooms are and how beautifully they layer.

Here are the steps I took to create this card:

To get stared I gathered the shades of Kraft-Core cardstock I wanted to die cut and grabbed my Sanding Grip and Alterations Sizzlits Decorative Strips.

Sanding the cardstock on a few different Layering stencils helped to create some interesting patterns and texture.  It also helps to sand the strip of cardstock rather than the delicate die cut shapes to prevent tearing.

I also sanded a pattern on to the cardstock used for the background.

Die cut the sanded strips.

Cut the background piece to fit the card base and swipe a painted border around the edge with Tarnished Brass Distress Paint.  Let dry.

Layer the die cuts on the base of the card.

Add a drop of Pebble Alcohol Ink to three Gumdrops and let dry.

Adhere the gems to the center of three flowers and add a dab of Mercury Glass Distress Stickles to the other flowers.  Add to a card base to complete.

This is a quick card to make and it shines in its simplicity.  I love how the dies and cardstock take center stage.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you gather a few ideas to add to your card making tools!
